A makeover blitz has given a new lease of life to a Yarraville learning hub for people living with disability.

Annecto’s David House was a hive of activity last Wednesday when close to 40 Bunnings staff rolled up their sleeves to provide a much-needed revamp.

David House offers activities and courses designed to support people with disability to become more independent.

Bunnings West Footscray activity organiser Susan Cheney said she had visited the site for a few small projects such as installing a chicken pen and tidying up garden beds.

“I decided when the next opportunity came up we would do a regional project and help out in a bigger way,” she said. “David House is a fantastic place, full of a great bunch of people and they do need help in improving the grounds for the students who attend.”

More than $5000 of supplies were donated to make pathways, clean up and restore the garden beds and make bench seating.

David House manager Joan Cooney said David House has operated for more than 60 years, helping hundreds of people build skills and learn to be more independent.

“We’ve traditionally had a lot of concrete around the place, but this project is going to change the entire feel of the place,” she said.

“It’s already full of fabulous people, and now they’ll have the surroundings to match.”
