Bulldogs tragic Beryl Comben has enjoyed a birthday to remember as she chalked up a magic milestone in Footscray.
The great-grandmother, who grew up and spent the bulk of her life in Yarraville, celebrated her 100th birthday with four generations of her family at Bulldogs headquarters last Thursday.
The party at Whitten Oval was capped off with surprise visits from Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge and players past and present including Dale Morris and club great John Schultz.
Beryl’s son-in-law Malcolm Knott said the Western Bulldogs helped put on “an exceptional day” for the life-long supporter.
“They gave her a jumper signed by the whole team, and a scarf and some other things as well,” he said. “It was a great day – the Bulldogs couldn’t have been better as far as we were concerned.”
Mr Knott said Beryl went to her first Bulldogs game with her father more than 90 years ago when she was just eight.
“She keeps up with them on TV or radio or whatever is available,” he said.
“She lives with my wife Maxine and I and she really is very good; her mind is very active and she still does her crosswords every day.”
