Biketober on the move

With the onset of October, the inner west has the chance to reaffirm its status as a cycling hotbed with the start of a national program designed to get people on their bike.

Biketober 2025 is already underway, a fun, free, and friendly challenge that’s open to riders of all levels.

The nationwide challenge involves cyclists downloading the Love Your Ride app and logging in their rides from October 1-31 with the chance to win prizes while improving their physical and mental health and helping the planet.

Whether competing as an individual or as part of a workplace or group, the more participants ride, the more chance they have to win, with a $4000 holiday among the many prizes on offer.

In Maribyrnong, deputy mayor Bernadette Thomas is among those taking part and according to the area’s own dedicated leaderboard, plenty of others are joining her.

At time of writing, 295 riders and 16 workplaces had signed up for Biketober Maribyrnong, with Western Health leading the 2000+staff category, Victoria University and cohealth leading the 400-1999 staff category and Maribyrnong council on top for workplaces with between 200 and 499 employees.

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre, Braybrook College, Westside Cycle Club and Community Bike Hub were among the other businesses and organisations leading their respective categories.

Nationwide, more than 5700 riders and also 400 workplaces have signed up with the 2025 challenge still in its early days.
