UPDATE

A body located in Victoria’s alpine area is believed to be that of missing Kingsville man Taddeo Haigh.

Mr Haigh was last seen leaving a holiday cottage in Gibb Court about 9.30pm on Sunday night about after telling family and friends he was going for a walk.

His parents arrived in Melbourne from Germany on Wednesday night and joined the search on Thursday.

Taddeo Haigh – better known as Ted – was last seen leaving a house in the Sawmill Settlement near Merrijig on Sunday, telling his wife Elizabeth Campbell he was going for a walk.

His parents Jenny and Jeff Haigh arrived from Germany on Wednesday night and joined the fourth day of the search for the 31-year-old at first light on Thursday.

More than 200 people were involved in the search, including police search and rescue, Airwing and the dog squad, supported by St John Ambulance, CFA, Bush Search and Rescue, Ambulance Victoria, SES and Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning.

More relatives of Mr Haigh were due to arrive from overseas Thursday to assist police with the search.

Mr Haigh and his wife were staying in the area with friends to go mountain bike riding over the Anzac Day long weekend.

‘Never done anything like this’

Ms Campbell said she started to worry about an hour after her husband had left.

“He stopped to grab his grey hooded woollen jumper and that was it, he didn’t say when he was coming back, but I wasn’t expecting him to be longer than maybe half an hour or so,” she told radio station 3AW.

Ms Campbell said she started to worry after an hour and sent her husband a text message asking: “Will you be back soon?” but received no reply.

“He’s never done anything like this before, it’s really unusual, out of character to wander off and not come back and not let us know what’s going on,” she said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
