Local artist Tania Tanti used last year’s COVID-19 pandemic lockdown to create a body of work.
Tanti closed her photography business, and dedicated herself to creating a range of quilts for an exhibition at the Altona Louis Joel Community Centre gallery.
The pieces have been professionally framed to pull the focus to the art form of quilting, and will be showcased until early June.
Tanti said she works spontaneously, without a clear direction of what the finished product will be, apart from colour choice.
“Colour is everything – the brighter the better,” she said.
“The splashes, dashes and flow of colour is what my world of textile art is all about.
“I like very bold, clear lines that draw you into the details.
“Your eye can appreciate each section of the quilt up close and then step back and take in the whole piece as one.
“It’s fun and can be very mesmerising when you are working on an art piece.”
Tanti found her art process and creating the pieces was what helped her through the pandemic
Her collection, Stitched and Framed, will be on display until Monday, June 7 at the Altona Louis Joel Community Centre gallery.
