Boon for lawn bowls green

The Laverton Bowling Club will soon undertake resurfacing works on its green, thanks to a $100,000 Labor commitment.

Labor candidate for Point Cook Mat Hilakari visited the club to inspect the facilities recently.

“The resurfacing of the club greens is vital to keep this club going,” he said.

Community Sport Minister Ros Spence said the commitment was part of ongoing investments in upgrades to community sport and recreation to deliver local job opportunities.

Laverton Bowling Club secretary Brian Moulang said the club welcomes close to 200 visitors per week for activities other than lawn bowls.

“Laverton Bowling Club is run by dedicated volunteers and has a proactive community engagement plan in place,” he said.

“Our challenge was to keep the competition green ‘up to scratch’.

“This grant enables that to happen.”

Altona MP Jill Hennessy said the club’s improved green will be a “terrific asset” for the community.

Established in 1975, the Laverton Bowling Club is affiliated with Bowls Victoria.

The club plays Pennant Tuesday and Saturday in the western region of Melbourne.

The venue is also available for function Hhre and weekly Bingo games are held on Wednesdays from 8pm.
