Fifteen drunk or drug-affected drivers were detected in a police blitz in Hobsons Bay on Friday night as part of Operation Fortified.
Three booze buses and two roaming patrol units were used to test 3414 motorists from 5.30pm to midnight.
An 18-year-old P-plate driver from New South Wales was among three people whose vehicles were impounded.
Sergeant Adam Wojcik, of Altona North police, said he was conducting laser duties near Bunninsg in Altona North when he heard the speeding car approaching.
The male driver, who was clocked at 129km/h in a 60km/h zone on Millers Road, pulled over and was apologetic.
Sergeant Wojcik said it was disturbing that in vehicles coming through the booze-bus line, two children not wearing seat-belts had been found.
Sergeant Wojcik said it was very disappointing to detect 15 people under the influence in six and half hours.
“With the warmer months approaching, we’ll be vigilant with our road policing given the number of licensed venues in Hobsons Bay and the amount of people that flock to the beach and consume alcohol,” he said.
He said the majority of drink-driving offences detected were in the lower range, with two drivers blowing above 0.1 and three detected for either amphetamines or cannabis.
Twenty-eight fines were issued overall for offences including mobile phone use, failing to stop at a traffic control signal, unlicensed driving and unregistered vehicles.
A further six people will face court on summons for other traffic offences.
