On Friday, May 5, The Williamstown Musical Theatre Company debuted its new show, ‘The Boy From Oz’,
This is the first time the company is performing ‘The Boy From Oz’, which follows great Australian entertainer Peter Allen through his life in fame, beginning in the Australian outback and then following his journey in the United States.
President Marcus Cassidy said choosing this production to be one of their three yearly productions was a no brainer.
“He is an iconic Australian entertainer with a great story and we had an exceptionally keen production team who really wanted to do this show,” he said.
The cast is made up of 29 theatrical volunteers from all over Melbourne, as well as many locals to the Williamstown area, all of which perform in musical productions as a side passion.
There are over 80 people involved in putting the production together, including costume designers, technical crew, volunteers that work front of house, as well as the production team.
“The team felt like they could tell his story in a really humble way, so we jumped on that opportunity to develop and foster their enthusiasm to present the show for May this year,” he said.
The crew have been rehearsing three times a week to prepare for the highly anticipated performance.
“Ticket sales have been flying through the door like crazy, we had to release an additional performance,” he said.
The show will be running at the Centenary Theatre in Williamstown until May 20 for a total of 10 shows.
