A teenage boy has been left with suspected broken legs after crashing his electric motorbike in Altona North on Monday afternoon.
The unlicensed 17-year-old was overtaking stationary traffic when he collided with an SUV turning in front of him on the corner of Blackshaws Road and The Broadway at about 1.55pm on 9 February.
The rider was thrown from the motorbike on impact and sustained serious injuries, including suspected broken legs and a dislocated shoulder.
Police have since established that the teenager had been cautioned the previous evening, Sunday 8 February, for riding the same electric motorcycle on public roadways.
He will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.
The incident has led police to remind the community that electric vehicles exceeding certain specifications are classified as motorcycles under Victorian road laws and that those considering buying one should check with relevant authorities first.
