Braybrook family evacuates house fire

Firefighters have responded to a house fire in Brooklyn this morning.

About 24 firefighters attended the single storey brick house on Alwyn Court and were able to stop the fire spreading to surrounding properties.

A smoke alarm alerted the occupants and all eight family members were evacuated safely from the home, according to Fire Rescue Victoria.

The house has been significantly damaged by the fire, with partial roof damage to the rear bedrooms and smoke and heat damage to the remainder of the house, FRV said.

In a statement, FRV said the fire is believed to have started in a bedroom but it has been deemed suspicious and police have been informed.
