A Footscray childcare centre and kindergarten has been sowing the seeds of community connection with a garden planter box project.
Brenbeal Children’s Centre has been working with a range of partners to help the gardens bloom from an idea to reality.
The planter boxes were built by participants at the Braybrook Men’s Shed, using timber donated by Bunnings West Footscray.
Newport Premix Concrete and Garden Supplies threw its support behind the project with rocks, soil and other materials.
Footscray City College horticulture students helped finish off the project by bringing along seedlings they had raised in their school’s greenhouse.
The students recently joined Brenbeal kindergarten children in planting the seedlings and putting the final touches on the decoration of the garden, right down to the resident dinosaurs.
Brenbeal manager Krystyna Soprun said the project was a great community partnership that would help teach the children about the value of working together.
Ms Soprun said the centre has been further strengthening its community connections by partnering with neighbouring Footscray Hospital and the nearby Doutta Galla Aged Care Footscray on projects and visits.
