Brew crew celebrates

The duo behind Australia’s first beer brewing company owned and operated by women is inviting residents to raise a glass to five years in business.

The owners of Spotswood’s Two Birds Brewing, Danielle Allen and Jayne Lewis, will mark the milestone this week with the launch of two limited-edition brews, one of which is inspired by the classic gin and tonic.

And they will be throwing a birthday party at the brewery’s Spotswood headquarters, The Nest, this Saturday.

On offer will be 12 taps of Two Birds beers, Two Birds resident DJ Larrabee, giveaways including beer, merchandise and gift vouchers, a celebration-inspired menu by Two Birds chef Matt Beard and beer-inspired sweet treats.

Ms Allen said the birthday beers included the “gin and tonic” IPA made with juniper berries, pepper berries, angelica root, coriander seeds, cinchona bark, allspice and grapefruit peel.

The second, a PX Belgian Dubbel, is described as having flavours of a raisin port with notes of muscatels, cinnamon quills, ground cloves and toasted French oak.

When reflecting on the past five years, the duo say they still have moments where they have to pinch themselves.

“We wanted to mark the occasion by giving something back to the people that have supported us over the past five years,” Ms Allen said.

“The way our beers have been embraced by beer drinkers has been very encouraging and makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

The Two Birds fifth birthday bash will run from noon to 11pm at The Nest, 136 Hall Street, Spotswood. Bookings: 9762 0000
