Bright new look for Tweddle thanks to grant

A Footscray organisation helping parents through the tricky early years is about to receive a welcome facelift.

Tweddle Child and Family Health service has received a federal government capital improvement grant that will pay for new paint, carpet and blinds to help brighten the centre, along with extra toilets and repairs to water-damaged walls.

The grant has been provided as part of the Commonwealth Government Stronger Communities Program, which delivers $150,000 to each electorate for small community projects.

Tweddle has provided families living across Gellibrand with parenting support since 1920, currently providing help to 730 expectant families through its childbirth education classes.

It also runs health professional training and parenting groups such as Circle of Security, Footprints for Success and MyTime.

Tweddle chief executive Jacquie O’Brien said she was grateful for the support provided by the grant.

“Tweddle’s education centre is home to many individuals and groups gaining knowledge and skills,” she said.

“Community centres like this strengthen participation in families, workplaces and communities.”
