Hobsons Bay mayor Antoinette (Tony) Briffa has released the focus areas for the 2022-23 mayoral term.
At Hobsons Bay council’s meeting on Tuesday, February 7, the council noted the 2022-23 mayoral program.
Hobsons Bay council elected Cr Briffa last November, having previously served in the role in 2011/12.
The six key areas include celebrating the diversity and community spirit of Hobsons Bay, creating a greater community voice and opportunities to participate in council activities, strengthening the relationship between council and the Victorian and Australian governments, stronger connections and purposeful engagement, promoting awareness of First Nations people and making Hobsons Bay a greener and more environmentally proactive city.
Cr Briffa said being mayor of Hobsons Bay was a “great honour”.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the community, local businesses and other governments to deliver on these initiatives as we continue our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
“Hobsons Bay is a proud, diverse community and I want to celebrate that diversity.
“I want to make sure they’re all better connected to Council so we can all work together to make Hobsons Bay an even better place to live, work and play.”
Cr Briffa’s program outlined a number of advocacy projects, including for funding for the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre and the Western Aquatic and Early Years Centre, extend council’s engagement and connection with its sister city and friendship alliances at Anjo in Japan, the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire in Queensland and Buloke Shire in Victoria and supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart and raising community awareness and exploring support for the Voice to Parliament.
