Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a building fire in Williamstown North shortly after midnight on Friday, April 5.

FRV said crews arrived to find the top floor of a double storey factoryette on Orange St in Williamstown North well alight.

FRV said firefighters were met by the owner of the premises on scene, who was able to evacuate the building safely and call to report the blaze.

Additional firefighting resources were responded due to the size of the fire and problems finding an adequate supply of water to fight the blaze.

Firefighters used multiple hoselines and aerial appliances to quell the flames, with the fire being declared under control at 12:57am, 33 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.

FRV said through their quick work crews were able to contain the fire to the top floor of the building and stop it from spreading to adjoining factoryettes.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Firefighters were to remain on scene overnight fully extinguishing the fire.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also assisted on scene.
