Cactus caper

Thieves stole four golden barrel cacti from a roundabout in Altona at the weekend.

The cacti, at the corner of Pier Street and Civic Parade, were planted about a year ago.

 

Fine for diesel spill

The Environment Protection Authority has fined a Tottenham man more than $1800 for allowing about 200 litres of diesel to spill from his truck across a 500-metre stretch of road and into a stormwater drain in West Melbourne last October.

 

Hobsons Bay council rated

Hobsons Bay council has received a score of seven out of 10 in the annual community satisfaction survey.

Waste collection and libraries were given a big tick by the 800 randomly-selected households. Last year’s score was 6.76, with metropolitan councils averaging 6.8 in 2015.

 

Swim centre birthday bash

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre (MAC) will celebrate its 10th birthday this Sunday with free entry from 8am-6.15pm, prizes, giveaways, children’s activities and a membership special.
