Maribyrnong community members are encouraged to dream of a greener vision for the area, as part of a competition for one of 40 available double passes to a screening of environmental documentary 2040.

Under its education program outlined in its Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP), Maribyrnong council is hosting a ‘Green Screens’ movie day on Wednesday, July 6 from 1.45pm to 4pm at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville.

Directed by Australian film maker Damon Gameau, the film illustrates what the future could look like if humanity embraced the best of current solutions and shines a light on the impacts of climate change.

Maribyrnong mayor Anthony Tran said the screening will broaden the community’s awareness of potential solutions to the climate emergency.

“The ‘Green Screens’ movie day is a chance to come together and further educate our community about the effects of the climate emergency,” he said.

“We know the people of Maribyrnong have an appetite to learn more about the impacts and solutions, and we want to ensure we do this in an informative and engaging way.”

Cr Tran said he is excited to see the submissions from locals for the free double passes.

“Whether it be a painting, drawing or written expression, we can’t wait to see your vision for a greener Maribyrnong,” he said.

Adopted in April 2022, the CEAP focuses on what Maribyrnong council can do around emissions reduction, advocacy and working with the community to transition to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Submissions for the double pass draw close on Monday, June 20.
