Call out for new apprentices

Western Melbourne tradespeople apprentices are encouraged to take advantage of a push to deliver 300 new building and construction sector apprenticeship for the Big Build project.

Career opportunities range from plumbing, electrical and engineering to civil construction, work health and safety and project management.

With an ‘earn and learn’ model, recruits can start working and earn an income while training to build their skills for a new career and gain an accredited qualification through TAFE or other registered training organisations.

Women currently represent 11.6 per cent of the industry’s workforce and will be prioritised for 180 of the roles on offer.

People under 25, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, those from culturally diverse backgrounds and those facing long-term unemployment are also strongly encouraged to apply for the roles.

Apprenticeships Victoria and the Apprenticeship Employment Network are delivering the two-year program.

“Our Big Build is supporting thousands of workers, apprentices and trainees across the state as projects continue to deliver the infrastructure Victorians want and need,” Premier Daniel Andrews said.

Employment Minister Jaala Pulford said the $250 million Jobs Victoria fund to create 10,000 steady and secure jobs.

“This program is providing great opportunities for people from all walks of life to pick up the tools and enter a dynamic and highly-skilled industry,” she said.
