Car crashes into pole at Newport bus stop

A car smashed into a pole at a bus stop narrowly missing three women in Newport on Monday.

Chris Pinsent witnessed the crash, which happened in Woods Street about 3.30pm.

“The car ended up on the wrong side of the road and smashed into a power pole metres away from a bus stop, narrowly avoiding three women who were waiting for the bus,” he said.

“I spoke to a young woman who, along with two female companions, was waiting at the bus stop – about a metre away from where the car ended up.”

The female driver was taken to Footscray Hospital.
