Maribyrnong carers are encouraged to reconnect with nature and join with other carers within the community as part of a new program.

A collaboration between the state government, Interchange Outer East and Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), the Pathways for Carers program is launching a monthly walk in Footscray on the third Thursday of each month.

Participants are encouraged to arrive at 9.15am for a 9.30am start, with a complimentary morning tea available at Myrtle Wine Cafe in Footscray from 10.15am.

Project manager Michelle Willoughby said everyone is welcome to take part in the walk.

“We understand that caring for a loved one can be an isolating and difficult path to navigate,” she said.

“Our carer support groups provide participants with an opportunity to socialise and connect with nature as well as learn more about news, services, and support available to them.”

BSL western Melbourne linkage co-ordinator Lauren McAlpine said the goal of the program is for the participants to find extra support within the community.

“Our aim is to promote positive relationships while encouraging all the benefits of fresh air and exercise,” she said.

“We want to create a safe environment for carers to come together, share lived experiences and form friendships.”
