Hobsons Bay’s youngest residents are being treated to a series of online art classes, science activities, outdoor scavenger hunts and live musical comedy as part of the 15th annual Children’s Week celebrations.
Bookings are now open and are free to all Hobsons Bay families for daily interactive activities and a suite of activities on demand from October 23 to 31.
Held in the last week of October each year, Children’s Week is a national celebration recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.
This year’s theme is friendship – that ‘Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others’.
Hobsons Bay mayor Jonathon Marsden said while people haven’t been able to hug or spend as much time as we like with our friends during lockdown, there are many ways to teach children how to show love and care.
“The online arts classes for Children’s Week teach children how to express what friendship means to them and all of the Children’s Week activities are interactive,” he said.
“Reach out to other parents and book a couple of the same activities—your kids might even make new connections and friends.”
Local art teacher Rachael from Little Art Big Art will hold special friendship themed online Anime classes (9-12 years) and creative drawing classes (under 9 years) at noon and 1pm October 23 and 24.
Children are invited to get creative and use art to express what friendship means to them and enter the Children’s Week Virtual Art Competition.
Join Grow Do It at 11am on October 24 for a fun and musical tour of life in soil, learning about how we can keep it healthy and grow fabulous fruit and veggies through composting and worm farming at home.
The nature journey continues with Labcoat Learning at 4pm on October 25, introducing the world of butterflies, bugs and all things creepy crawly.
