Maribyrnong council is celebrating National Tree Day 2023 by hosting a tree planting event.
On Sunday, July 30 at 9am till 3pm, friends and family of all ages are invited for a tree planting day at Burndap Park along the Maribyrnong River.
Council said they aim to plant 4,000 native seedlings along the Maribyrnong River to help increase the wildlife corridor.
The event will open with a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri elders to learn more about nature and cultural heritage.
Participants can also witness a show from Wild Action to learn about the animals who live in Maribyrnong area and surrounds, there will also be face painting for the kids.
There will be a complimentary coffee cart and BBQ provided by the Lions Club.
Council asks participants to bring along a pair of gardening gloves and a water bottle, and wear protective footwear, sun protection and clothing appropriate for the colder weather.
While the event is free, registrations are required in order to attend.
