Charges laid over dumped stolen vehicle in Altona North

Two people have been charged after an allegedly stolen vehicle was dumped in Alton North on January 17.

The vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, first came to the attention of police on Heaths Road, where it allegedly collides with another vehicle while trying to avoid police about 11.15am.

Police, with the help of the Air Wing, followed the vehicle as it travelled north-east along the Princes Highway, before it was allegedly dumped at Altona Gate Shopping Centre about 11.45am, police said.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, while the driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested at a nearby residence.

The woman has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of methylamphetamine

She has been bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates Court on September 8

The man was charged with conduct endangering life, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, possessing methylamphetamine, possessing cannabis and possessing cartridge ammunition without license.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court at a later date.

Police will allege the vehicle was stolen from a driveway in Jamaica Street, Point Cook, the morning of January 17.
