Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) founder and CEO Kon Karapanagiotidis is welcoming Footscray locals to join him at the dinner table for a special charity event.

ASRC Footscray is hosting ‘Philoxenia’ on Sunday, February 19 from 7pm to 10pm.

Mr Karapanagiotidis said all proceeds from donations will contribute to the ASRC Foodbank program.

“Philoxenia means to welcome the stranger, it is at the heart of Greek culture and hospitality,” he said.

“For 21 years, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) has been welcoming refugees.

“I am inviting you to share a meal with me that I will personally cook for you.”

Food on offer will cover Greek vegan and vegetarian recipes and sweets from Mr Karapanagiotidis’ upcoming cookbook.

Drinks will also be available at bar prices.

The event is aiming to raise $25,000 to provide food to hundreds of families seeking asylum, with the current total at $22,398 at the time of publication.
