Children’s Week returns to Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay with a full program and a wide range of activities.
A week of free, educational events will be held for children under the age of 12 and their families, from Saturday 21 October to Sunday 29 October.
Held in the last week of October every year, Children’s Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements, and rights of children.
This year’s theme celebrates the right of children to relax, play and take part in the activities they enjoy.
Among this year’s schedule of events in Hobsons Bay is the opening of the STEAM Centre at Altona Meadows Library, an open day at Brooklyn Tennis Club and Altona Hockey Club, grandparents’ playgroup, fun for all ages at Hobsons Bay libraries and community centres such as baby time, story time, courtyard construction and comic club, musical adventures with Hey Dee Ho, a webinar for parents on raising an emotionally intelligent child, Marine Education with Seaweed Sally, Aboriginal Culture with Didgeridoo Australia, drop-in STEAM sessions at SciencePlay Kids, and mixed media art classes with Little Art Big Art.
Activities in Maribyrnong include intergenerational play which brings different generations together to enjoy a petting zoo; and a Vietnamese bilingual storytime, celebrating diversity through captivating songs, stories and rhymes. There will also be classic games in a retro play session for a nostalgic experience.
