Gordon Street Pantry is hosting a Christmas hamper event in the last few days leading up to Christmas, as a last minute treat for the community.
Footscray Church of Christ pastor Jarrod Davies said the event will run similarly to their normal Friday routine of giving out hampers, but with a Christmas twist.
“Every Friday we hand out about 30 hampers to the community which contain food staples, so we are just trying to bump this up and make it more enjoyable,” he said.
The event will run on Friday, December 22, at Footscray Church of Christ, where there will be hampers handed out and more.
“Around lockdown we put on a Christmas event where we had a barbecue , we got people and local businesses to donate toys and that was really successful,” Mr Davies said.
“So we kept doing that and now it is larger than a church event, we have lots of people not inside the church community which support us which we do very much love.
“This year we have pumped it up with a petting zoo for the kids, as well as Everywhere Specialty Coffee who are coming in for us.”
There will also be children’s presents and gift wrapping, a sausage sizzle, a demo and mini lesson from Flow Taekwondo and a performance from Dance 4 all.
“It is also not just about our church, the church is backing it and supporting it but we have a mixture of people from the community helping, we are preparing for up to 60 to 70 people to come,” Mr Davies said.
“The idea is to just get the community there, people from all walks of life who can come and feel loved.”
