When it comes to Christmas, Altona couple Jillian and Joe Inguanez pay attention to detail.
Their Christmas display at 2 Greeney Street this year includes an illuminated window containing thousands of thumbnail-sized figurines and fairground rides, with a choo-choo train passing through.
Ms Inguanez said they had done different displays for the past 20 years. Any donations from visitors to this year’s display will go towards fighting breast cancer.
“We started off with just a few small things, but then it just got bigger and bigger,” she said. “I think as it’s got bigger, we’ve got more enjoyment out of it.
“I think it’s the joy of people coming and noticing that things are all different … this is new, that’s new.
“We’ve had children come year after year. They come for the train.
“We see them down the street and they say to my husband, ‘Oh, you’re the train man’, because they remember us from the actual train that goes around.”
Past displays have included a zoo and a shopping centre with houses below.
“Every year we do something different, so this year we’ve decided to do rides,” Ms Inguanez said.
“We’re doing it to raise money for Cancer Council this year.
“I like to make the charities different each year, as well.
“People persist in giving us money. At first we decided, no you can’t give us money, but then we thought, if they give us money we’ll put it towards a charity.
“Christmas is all about giving, isn’t it?”
