A haul of cigarettes was stolen after a Laverton supermarket was ram-raided early Friday morning.

Police say a light-coloured Nissan Patrol utility reversed through the front door of FoodWorks in Bladin Street about 4am.

The utility had a stainless steel tray-top and was carrying two large mud tyres strapped to a dark coloured dog cage.

Another vehicle, a silver Subaru Impreza, was parked outside the store.

Six offenders entered the supermarket, removed a cigarette safe and filled doona covers with cigarettes.

They placed the doona covers in the Subaru while a male armed with a knife stood guard at the front door.

Both vehicles were then driven away along Bladin Street, heading towards Old Geelong Road.

The Subaru was dumped nearby in Cropley Street.

Police have released footage from the break-in.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
