As councillors, we often hear from the community about getting the basics right, with waste and recycling a frequent topic of conversation.
It’s exciting to see council take steps to continue to make life a little easier for residents, with the launch of a new and improved bin app.
The new app is free and easy to use for all smart phone owners.
It includes important features such as bin collection schedules, news on upcoming waste and recycling events, and a comprehensive guide to help you know what bin certain items go in.
So if you’re not sure which bin an item goes into, just jump on the app, search the item and the guide will let you know where it belongs.
This will play an important role as we continue to improve our recycling standard, sending more items that can be recycled to be recycled, hopefully meaning less is going to landfill.
Search for ‘LoopedIn Councils’ in your app store, select Hobsons Bay once prompted and away you go. And make sure to delete our old app, which will be decommissioned this June.
We’re also helping you with food waste, with food scrap bin liners now available for free. These paper bags fit perfectly in our kitchen caddies and are easy to use.
Just pop them in the caddy and put them straight in your garden waste bin (green lid).
You can pick yours up from the civic centre or any of our libraries.
Once you’ve downloaded your bin app and got your food bin liners to sort out your waste management at home, why not lend a hand to help the rest of our community with Clean Up Australia Day.
The annual event is back on Sunday 1 March and is a great opportunity to get out and about and help make a positive impact on our environment.
You can join a local clean up, host your own event or make a donation if you aren’t able to get involved this year.
