A Footscray project has residents of all ages climbing the walls.
A four-metre climbing wall and exercise equipment are part of a new plaza that has been installed beneath the Hopkins Street Bridge, alongside the Maribyrnong River.
The climbing wall, designed in collaboration with the Victorian Climbing Club, includes a number of coloured routes that provide varying degrees of difficulty, making it suitable for beginners and experienced climbers
alike.
The idea for the place emerged from community consultation undertaken as part of the Footscray River Edge Masterplan, a series of projects aimed to encourage people to make more use of areas alongside Maribyrnong River.
Maribyrnong mayor Martin Zakharov, who tried his hand at climbing the new wall last week, said the initiative was a great example of the community having a positive planning impact.
“The new recreational plaza will be a staple this summer for people of all ages utilising the Maribyrnong River Trail,” he said.
