The Williamstown Colts Cricket Club finally has new nets after years of rallying for new facilities.
The club applied for a grant in August 2022, receiving approval in December 2022.
Now a year later their 15 junior teams and four senior teams are enjoying the benefits.
President Hanni Harb said the new nets, granted from the state government and Hobsons Bay council have been amazing.
“We have been asking for some new facilities for a while, our club is pretty old but the nets were also pretty old,” he said.
“We are really happy with that, being one of the biggest clubs in the Hobsons Bay area, with the most junior teams we were definitely next in line.”
The $360,000 grant not only gave the club the new nets but also synthetic wickets, a new pitch, and a new shed to store all of the equipment.
“We are still working on getting a new pavilion but right now we are very happy with what we have received and what the outcome is,” Mr Harb said.
“It is a great facility and they are used very regularly, on a daily basis.”
More than 90 kids are benefiting from the new equipment , something Mr Harb said will help them reach their full potential.
“Our seniors also use those nets, so I think it is really helping their development,” he said.
“Better facilities always support that aspect, especially when they are developing skills at such a young age.
“We are a family club, and we are happy for anyone that wants to participate to come down and put their hands up.”
