Out and About Festival
Bruce Comben Reserve will host a day packed with family-friendly entertainment as the Out & About Festival hits Seabrook and Altona Meadows on Saturday, September 17 from 2pm to 7pm. Live music and kids entertainment from The Mik Maks and other activities and giveaways will be on offer.
Community centre opening
South Kingsville Community Centre is holding an Open Day on Saturday, October 8 from 9am to 1pm. Celebrate the completion of the renovations made possible by the Westgate Neighbourhood Fund and Hobsons Bay City Council.
Making Noise
Making Noise will be running a series of live performances and silent auctions to raise funds for Full Stop Australia. The event will involve a range of advocates, artists and speakers, and will be offering discrete opportunities for counselling and further support during the course of the night. Class Act
In Class Act, working class unfortunate Mish Grigor tells the story of a grotesque world of class and social mobility straight from her dirty mouth. Joined by dancer Alice Dixon, directed by Zoey Dawson, and with some experimentally arranged orchids, Grigor’s performance shines a light on the unseen costs of a social glow up. Youth Fest
Yarraville Community Centre will be hosting a free program run by youth leaders, which aims to build wellbeing and confidence through healthy gaming practices, as well as developing a healthier mind and body. Laverton Community Choir
The Laverton Community Choir is a singing group for adults, which sings popular hit songs. Whether you are a beginner, closet singer, stressed out parent, busy professional or the next singing sensation, then our choir is for you. The Altona Meadows & Newport Heart Foundation Walking Group is a local community of men and women committed to walking and socialising together for about 60 minutes. Folk Beginners Welcome
After a COVID interrupted year, The Newport Folk and Fiddle Group has started up its beginner play along sessions again. If you are an absolute beginner or have decided to pick up that dusty or unused instrument or have some experience and want to try a new instrument in a safe, casual and welcoming environment, then come down and have some fun, share a cuppa and maybe even learn something new. Carers’ Walk and Talk
Pathways for Carers is running free walking events in Laverton. The state government funded project which is supported by Interchange Outer East meets once a month for a walk followed by complimentary morning tea with a guest speaker who provides informal information about services relevant to carers and the local community. Carers who participate in the groups are defined as unpaid and caring for a loved one with a disability, mental illness or an elderly person. The goal of each group is to provide carers with peer-based support, information, services and resources, opportunities to be active and connect with other carers, connect with nature and connect with their local community.
