More than 20 organisations will share in more than a quarter of a million dollars in funding next year, after Maribyrnong council announced the successful recipients of its 2024 Community Grants Program at a meeting on December 10.
The successful recipients were recommended by an independent review panel and endorsed at council’s first full meeting since the October elections and the last for 2024.
Among the successful applicants were Her Connection-Her Run who were awarded $25, 000 to run a wellness and fitness program for young multicultural women, the Community Bike Hub which received $11,499 for bike maintenance workshops and Women’s Circus Limited which received $14,774 to hold training and community connection sessions.
Maribyrnong mayor Pradeep Tiwari said the grants program empowered residents to invest in initiatives by and for the community.
“From enhancing intercultural connection, LGBTQIA+ community arts exhibitions, disability education and advocacy and more, this year’s grant recipients are working to highlight connection in our diverse community in unique and innovative ways,” Cr Tiwari said.
“Across the diversity of projects, one core theme has emerged – the focus on enhancing community connection, both within specific demographic groups as well as strengthening ties across demographic groups to build a more unified city.”
The community grants program supports projects that encourage and remove barriers to participation, build and strengthen networks, support community wellbeing and allow for intergenerational and-or intercultural connection.
Applications for the 2025 grants program are scheduled to open in July next year.
