The Australian Islamic Centre in Newport held a community Iftar on April 21, attended by local dignitaries and members of the mosque.
Iftar is an evening meal where Muslims end their daily fast during Ramadan.
About 70 people gathered at the mosque, including members from Fire Rescue Victoria, Gellibrand MP Tim Watts, Williamstown MP Melissa Horne and Hobsons Bay mayor Peter Hemphill.
After a tour of the mosque by one of the building’s architects Hakan Elevli, those present met for dinner in the library, where they broke their fast on dates and water.
A delicious feast of middle eastern food and desserts was enjoyed by all.
