Hobsons Bay’s Baha’i community will this month hold a public celebration at Altona Meadows marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of their religion’s founder, the figure known as Bahá’u’lláh.
Community member Peter Seery said Bahá’u’lláh’s great vision was of Earth as one country with mankind its citizens.
“That includes an inner transformation of people as well as a revitalisation of our society based on principles of justice and respect for all people as equal members of one human family,” he said.
He said the Baha’i faith respected all religions.
“The Baha’i faith was founded in Iran in 1844 and one of the hallmarks of the Baha’i faith is the unity of mankind,” Mr Seery said.
“We believe all these other religions are from God so we don’t have any prejudice.
“We also believe in the equality of men and women and the harmony of religion and science.
“We believe that world peace is not only possible but inevitable.
“We believe humanity is like an adolescent going through a very turbulent stage. We might have to go through a period of suffering to reach maturity.”
Hobsons Bay’s Baha’i community will host a public celebration at Altona Meadows library on October 22 from 3pm.
