Council flips budget input process

Maribyrnong Council is reshaping the way it incorporates community feedback into its annual budget.

Each year Council develops an Annual Budget, shaping the way finances are managed on behalf of the community.

Traditionally the council has called for submissions after the draft budget has been prepared, but this time around submissions will be invited early in the process so they can inform the development of the draft.

Outgoing mayor Michael Clarke said the council manages a significant amount of finances on behalf of its community and has an obligation to manage these responsibly to ensure delivery of important services and facilities that meet community needs and expectations now and into the future.

“Changes to the Local Government Act 2020 have provided the opportunity for us to revisit our traditional engagement approach making innovative and pioneering changes that will deliver enhanced outcomes for both the community and the Council,” he said.

“These changes in the way we talk to you – our community – about your wants and needs will enhance the way the Annual Budget delivers for and supports our community.”
