Hobsons Bay council will be expanding its council+ services to the Newport Community Hub, celebrated by a Twilight Wonderland event later this month.

The event will host a full schedule of family events, from 4pm to 7pm, on Wednesday, June 28, which will celebrate the launch of council+ services being available at the site.

Council+ allows residents to do all their council-related business closer to home.

Locals can pay their rates, apply for a permit, register their pet, upsize their bin from their local library or community centre.

Council+ service sites can currently be found at the Altona, Altona North and Williamstown libraries.

Sites include the Altona Meadows pop-up library, Laverton Community Hub, Seabrook Community Centre and the Civic Centre in Altona.

Twilight Wonderland will see activities across six spaces at the community hub.

It will include the Cooked Chook puppet show, camp fire story time, a glow in the dark sensory zone, digital drawing workshop, musical performances, neon UV face painting and more.

Hobsons Bay mayor Tony Briffa said she is excited to welcome these new services for the community.

“I’m so excited to see Newport Community Hub welcome Council+ services,” she said.

“This is the last of our sites to launch Council+, so it will then be available at all our libraries and community centres.

Council said they are proud of the initiative allowing councillors to become closer to their residents.

“For people who don’t have enough time to get to the Civic Centre in Altona, they can go somewhere close to home and do all their Council-related business,” she said.

“And this Twilight Wonderland program looks fantastic, It’s going to be a lot of fun for kids of all ages, so I encourage people to come down and check it out.”
