Hobsons Bay council has elected Tony Briffa as mayor for her second term as mayor and re-elected Diana Grima as deputy mayor.
Elected on Friday, November 11, Cr Briffa previously served as mayor in 2011-12 and has been deputy mayor in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2017-18 after first being elected as the Cherry Lake Ward councillor in 2008.
Cr Briffa said she was “very honoured” to be elected mayor for a second time.
“We serve an amazing community,” she said.
“It’s a community that I’m really proud to have been born in, raised in, went to local schools in, have served on the local council since 2008, and worked with many community groups.”
Cr Briffa said she was looking forward to working alongside Cr Grima, councillors, council chief executive Aaron van Egmond and council administration over her coming term.
“I will also seek to deliver a mayoral program that focuses on some of the community issues that I’m passionate about,” she said.
Cr Briffa’s interests and goals as mayor would include ensuring the council provides quality services and infrastructure, maintaining affordable rates, protecting the environment, advocating for residents’ needs and confirming developments maintain respect for the local community.
Cr Grima said she also felt privileged to be re-elected as the council’s deputy mayor.
“I’m honoured that my fellow councillors have entrusted me with another term as deputy mayor,” she said.
“I take this role very seriously and look forward to working with mayor Briffa and our other councillors as we strive to make Hobsons Bay an even better community to live, work and play,” she said.
