Over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of community togetherness and social connectivity.

Collectively, the isolation experienced by ongoing lockdowns has served to reinforce how much we rely on strong relationships for our emotional health and wellbeing.

Before the pandemic, the importance of relationships, community and the power of social events, was something many of us took for granted. As restrictions continue to ease and we are able to once again gather together, it is great to see live music and events returning to our City.

I am especially thrilled to see the Stony Creek Music Festival back on the calendar.

This annual live music, arts and entertainment festival celebrates the creative melting pot that makes Maribyrnong so dynamic, and this year will be no exception.

The 2022 Stony Creek Music Festival will be headlined by rock music veterans, Painters and Dockers. Formed in 1982, the group has released multiple albums and chart topping hits over the years.

Initially starting with five members, the band is still performing many decades later, thanks to countless special guests and the now eight musicians that make up this dynamic band. Other notable music acts include The Grateful Dead tribute band, Deadnecks and many more.

With something for everyone, the festival will also include children’s entertainment from Belle the Roller Fairy and an African drumming workshop from Order of Australia Medal awardee Ray Pereira.

I hope to see you all there from 12pm on Sunday 13 March at McNish Reserve, Court St Yarraville (joining Cruickshank Park).

If you enter through Cruickshank Park, you likely pass six trees on Tuppen Street adorned in pink, including homemade woollen pom poms, ribbons and roses, which have been decorated by the Friends of Cruickshank Park to raise awareness of Breast Cancer.

Visitors are encouraged to add more home-made or sustainable objects to the trees; so bring your favourite pink decorations with you and add your memento in support of Breast Cancer awareness and your local community.

The Stony Creek Music Festival is a true celebration of live music, art and entertainment for families of all ages to enjoy. Let’s all come together to experience what makes our city so vibrant – I know I will be.
