COVID clusters identified in Laverton North and Altona Meadows as case numbers rise

COVID case numbers continue to rise in the west as Victoria records 40,127 new cases.

As of Wednesday, Hobsons Bay has recorded 285 new cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total active number of cases to 1630.

Diamond Valley Pork and Baxters Pork in Laverton North have been linked to an outbreak involving 36 cases.

Estia Health Altona Meadows has also been identified as a cluster, with 10 cases linked to the aged care centre.

Maribyrnong has also seen another jump in cases, recording 376 in the past 24 hours.

This brings the total active cases in the area to 2493.

Throughout 2021, Maribyrnong hosted a series of pop-up vaccination hubs, which are set to return this year as Victorians are encouraged to get their booster shots.

As of Wednesday, Maribyrnong has still not reached the 90 per cent double dosed target and sits on only 83.7 per cent.

The city has struggled to increase its vaccination rates since late last year, and has trailed behind surrounding municipalities such as Wyndhman, Melton and Brimbank who have already exceeded the 90 per cent target.
