Breaches of family violence orders remains one of the most frequent crimes in Hobsons Bay.

Overall, crimes recorded for the year to March dropped 3.3 per cent in Hobsons Bay and 5.7 per cent in Maribyrnong, the latest Crime Statistics Agency data shows.

There were 5853 offences recorded in Hobsons Bay and 8848 in Maribyrnong.

Stealing from a motor vehicle was Hobsons Bay’s most common crime (693), followed by other theft (572), public health and safety offences (510), breaching family violence orders (459) and criminal damage (365).

Altona North had the most crimes (1003), followed by Altona Meadows (982), Williamstown (932), Altona (789) and Laverton (564).

Most crimes happened in houses (1544), streets, lanes and footpaths (1286), driveways and carports (249), flats, units and apartments (243), and service stations (214).

Maribyrnong’s top five offences were stealing from a motor vehicle (1380), other theft (693), public health and safety crimes (653), obtaining benefit by deception (559) and criminal damage (559).

The worst suburbs for crime were Footscray (2676), Braybrook (1645), Maribyrnong (1377), Maidstone (982) and Yarraville (860).

Most crimes happened in streets, lanes and on footpaths (2277), followed by houses (1581), flats, units and apartments (608), shopping complexes (375) and driveways and carports (366).
