Crime up in Maribyrnong, down in Hobsons Bay

Crime rose by 2.8 per cent in Maribyrnong and fell by 6.3 per cent in Hobsons Bay last year.

The Crime Statistics Agency today released figures showing Maribyrnong had 9158 offences recorded.

The top five offences were steal from a motor vehicle (1501), other theft (721), public health and safety offences (649), obtain benefit by deception (547) and criminal damage (529).

The worst suburbs for crime were Footscray (2784), Braybrook (1619), Maribyrnong (1526), Maidstone (1025) and Yarraville (903).

Most crimes happened in streets, lanes and on footpaths (2354), followed by houses (1621), flats, units and apartments (588), shopping complexes (415), and driveways and carports (354).

Hobsons Bay had 5828 offences recorded, the top five being steal from a motor vehicle (712), other theft (588), public health and safety offences (506), breach family violence order (442) and criminal damage (407).

Altona North had the most crimes (1087), followed by Altona Meadows (965), Williamstown (935), Altona (702) and Laverton (568).

Most crimes happened in houses (1551), streets, lanes and footpaths (1297), flats, units and apartments (242), driveways and carports (239), and service stations (222).
