A cyclist in her 30s has died after being hit by a truck in Yarraville.
The woman was cycling near Yarraville Gardens at 5.40pm Friday when she was struck.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives believe she was hit as the truck driver made a left turn into Somerville Road from Whitehall Street.
The woman died at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Darryl Out told the ABC it appeared the cyclist went through a green light, but a truck travelling from the same direction has turned left and struck her.
“We would obviously stress for people to be careful when they are on the roads and to pay attention in particular to cyclists and pedestrians coming up to intersections so that we can avoid any more of these tragedies occurring,” he said.
The truck driver has been assisting police with their investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
