Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning [DELWP] secretary John Bradley has received a Public Service Medal for his work in strategic policy reform, particularly in the areas of energy and natural resource management.
The Newport resident received the medal as part of the Queen’s Birthday honours announced on Monday, June 13.
He took on the position at the DELWP in 2017 after departing from his position as the chief executive of Energy Networks Australia.
Since then, he has led a workforce comprising more than 4800 staff across 91 locations in Victoria through a number of major policy and infrastructure reforms across the state’s systems responding to climate change, energy, environment, water, forests, planning and emergency management issues.
Mr Bradley has also been the president of the Institute of Public Administration Australia’s [IPAA] Victorian branch since November 2020.
He was also a non-executive director on the Australian Gas Industry Trust from 2016 to 2017, a non-executive director at Greening Australia from 2012 to 2015 and the director general of Queensland’s Department of Premier and Cabinet from 2011 to 2012.
Earlier in his career, Mr Bradley led reforms of the utilities sector in a number of areas, including the $5 billion Western Australian electricity industry restructure and the $20 billion South East Queensland Water industry restructure.
