Designs make a splash

The Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club (S&LSC) will soon be receiving an upgrade to the facility with the concept designs launched on Wednesday, October 11.

Hobsons Bay council and Williamstown MP Melissa Horne visited the club to commence community engagement for the upgrade to Williamstown’s 100- year-old clubhouse facility.

Life Saving Victoria said the concept design has been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the club, Life Saving Victoria, and other relevant authorities.

During the consultation period, the community will have an opportunity to view the concept designs on selected dates at the Williamstown Clubhouse and Robertson Reserve Farmers Market, or alternatively online.

After the community engagement period concludes on December 10, the next stage of design development will begin, with consideration of the community’s input.

The Williamstown S&LSC redevelopment project is jointly funded by the state government, which pledged over $11.3 million in funding in 2021, and Hobsons Bay council which committed $3 million.

Williamstown MP Melissa Horne congratulated Williamstown S&LSC for the work they do.

“These designs are an exciting next step for the project which will be a fantastic addition to the community,” she said.

Williamstown S&LSC president Claire Howell said the club anticipates that the new facility will be enjoyed by all.

“Williamstown S&LSC will ensure the community and visitors who use and enjoy our beach will experience a state-of-the-art facility for many years to come,” she said.

“Our 1,500 members, from our frontline patrollers to the youngest nippers, will benefit from the revitalised clubhouse and foreshore precinct, while retaining the heritage of our proud club, allowing us to deliver essential lifesaving services for generations to come.

“The club invites the public’s input and ideas regarding the project, as we want the new Williamstown S&LSC to be a place the whole community is proud to visit, and safely enjoy the beach and surrounding amenities.”
