Residents in the west and north-west are being asked to prepare for disruptions during the next few months as the state government starts major road upgrades in Footscray, Deer Park and Sunbury.

As part of the West Gate Freeway widening, the Millers Road interchange would be upgraded.

Road and lane closures on Millers Road and freeway ramp closures from the West Gate Freeway to Millers Rd are also expected in September and October.

Works will also continue on the elevated road above Footscray Road which will link the West Gate Tunnels to Citylink and the city.

There will be weekend and overnight closures of Footscray Road throughout September, October and November.

The government announced on Friday, August 26 that the level crossing at Robinsons Rd, Deer Park would be fully removed on Monday 12 September.

Robinsons Road will be closed from 9pm on Friday, September 2 to 5am on Monday, September 12 to carry out work ahead of the underpass opening.

The dangerous and congested Gap Road level crossing in Sunbury will also be replaced with a new underpass.

Disruptions are expected on the Sunbury rail line for two weekends from Friday, September 30 and Friday, October 14.
