A Seabrook man is urging pet owners to be aware of snakes after his dog was fatally bitten by a tiger snake last week.
Steve Koehler said he came home about 2.30pm on Tuesday and noticed the house was quiet.
“I noticed it was a bit quiet but sometimes Spike is outside asleep,” he said. “Then my wife came home about an hour later and … noticed he was just laying there.
“She said, ‘Come on Spiky, come on’, and he wasn’t moving. She went and touched him and lifted his head and then she came running in and said to me, ‘Steve, I think Spike’s dead’, and I said, ‘No, he can’t be’.”
Mr Koehler said a dead tiger snake was lying next to Spike.
Hobsons Bay council on Sunday issued a warning about tiger snakes.
