Today is ‘Double the Difference Day’ for Orange Sky Australia, a free mobile laundry service providing aid to those in need.

Today on Thursday, June 15, every donation made online will be doubled, instantly doubling the work the generous team is able to do.

Orange Sky Australia created the world’s first free mobile laundry service for people experiencing homelessness.

The idea was founded by two Brisbane boys’ 20-year-old mates, Nic Marchesi and Lucas Patchett.

To date, Orange Sky has provided Australians doing it tough with over 1.9 million kilograms of free laundry, 20,000 showers and 330,000 hours of genuine and non-judgemental conversation across 36 service locations.

Despite being based in Brisbane QLD, the team didn’t hesitate to travel down south to Melbourne’s west to provide assistance to those affected by the October 2022 floods.

Orange Sky came down to Victoria as part of their community response system addressing community needs , which this time happened to be in Maribyrnong.

Across three weekends Orange Sky sent their laundry van to the Maribyrnong Community Centre on Friday, October 21, from 10am to 2pm, and Saturday, October 22 from 9am to 2pm.

Across the nine hours they supported local families with 16 loads of washing and drying.

A local member of the community said she had been in contact with them to come down and help, but they were already on their way.

On an average week Orange Sky has more than 4,000 volunteers who complete 1,791 loads of washing, the more donations the more they can help.
