On Wednesday, May 17, for one day only, all financial donations made to the Children’s Charity Big Group Hug (BGH) will be matched by a group of generous funders.

Marketing co-ordinator Emina Mesinovic said the need for aid in the west is constantly growing and they’re struggling to keep up.

“The need is increasing in this area, we are seeing requests from many families who need help,” she said.

Between January- March, BGH provided aid for 1353 children , their reports show a 52 per cent increase on the previous quarter.

“These figures show an ever-growing demand for assistance, In Australia 1 in 6 children are living in poverty,” Ms Mesinovic said.

“We are struggling to keep up with the demand right now.”

The funders making double donation day possible are, Aintree, Anywise, BDO, Blue Bike Solutions, Dentists of Tasmania, The Growth Collective, MC Labour, Mortgage Choice, SCRGroup and Pressroom Philanthropy.

Plus six families who are also matching donations but have chosen to remain anonymous.

“Double donation day will help us raise vital funds to families who have fled domestic violence, children living in kinship care or out of home care, or whose family is struggling to provide the essentials they need to thrive, ” Ms Mesinovic said.

“Donors will see their generosity double before their eyes, and we are appreciative of any donation.”

In March alone, BGH had almost 400 requests come from families requiring different levels of aid.

BGH provides items ranging from newborn nappies, to school supplies as well as emergency packs for displaced children and clothes for kids facing daily disadvantages.

“We are also actively reducing landfill by giving preloved items a second life,” Ms Mesinovic said.

Every Monday and Wednesday, the access hub located in Airport West is open for donations.
