Dramatic arrest at Altona Bunnings

Shoppers at Bunnings Warehouse in Altona were in shock after witnessing a dramatic police bust about 1pm on Friday.

A woman, who asked that her name not be used, witnessed a young man in a black Mercedes Benz trying to escape from special operations police in the hardware store’s car park off Millers Road.

“I just had to go there to buy a voucher and there were undercover cars everywhere, blocking the entrance, and SWAT teams and everything, with guns,” she said.

“Basically, he was in this black Mercedes Benz and he looked like he was trying to get away and he’s rammed his car into the car beside him, which there was a lady in.

“Then her car’s been pushed into the next car.

“Then it looks like [police] drove a car into the front of his to stop his getting away.

“They had him in cuffs.

“It was very dramatic for a lunchtime visit to Bunnings.”

The woman said eyewitnesses were scared as they watched the arrest take place.

“I was [scared] when I saw masked men and guns – I assumed it was a drug bust or something.”

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a 26-year-old Epping man was arrested as part of an ongoing assault investigation by Whittlesea crime investigation unit.

He was taken into custody for questioning by police.
